col-m6p-car-chax1
Carrot 'Chantenay' (Daucus carota) – Short-Rooted Grow Your Own Veg (12 Plants in 2 x 6-Cell Trays)

Chantenay carrot is one of the most popular and reliable short-rooted carrots, prized for its sweet flavour, tender texture and compact size. It suits smaller plots, raised beds and deep containers.

You get 12 young Chantenay carrot plants (Daucus carota), supplied growing in 2 plastic 6-cell trays, one plant to a cell. Each plant is healthy and ready to be planted out, giving you a head start on the growing season. The roots are short, stocky and conical, which makes this a good choice for shallow or stony soils. The foliage is bright green, feathery and finely divided.

Plant carrots in full sun in loose, well-drained, stone-free soil, or in a deep container of good-quality compost. Avoid freshly manured ground, which makes roots fork. Thin the plants as they develop to avoid overcrowding, and water regularly and consistently, because irregular watering can make roots split. Harvest once the roots reach finger thickness for the sweetest flavour. Carrot fly is the main pest to watch for.

As living plants, slight variation in size and appearance on arrival is natural.

Cultural Information

Common Name: Chantenay Carrot

Botanical Name: Daucus carota subsp. sativus

Eventually Reaches: 20-45cm tall and 10-25cm wide

Growth Habit: Low, bushy feathery foliage with short, stout, tapered roots about 10-15cm long

Perfect For: Raised beds, containers, patio pots, allotments, kitchen gardens

Foliage: Bright green, feathery

Planting Position: Full sun

Soil Type: Well-drained, stone-free, loose soil

Planting Time: May to June

Seasonal Interest: Harvest July to October

Type: Annual vegetable

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0646/2455/8300/files/1_e6ef706d-92c1-4589-8743-4b9ffab98922.png?v=1793631830
