The bedding geranium everybody knows, flowering without a break from late spring until the first frost.
Toscana Smart Jenny flowers without a break through the summer, carrying large heads of bloom above big, dark green leaves. Toscana is an upright, bushy zonal geranium rather than a trailing one, so it holds its shape as the centre of a pot or a basket and stands up well in a bedding scheme.
Give it full sun and a free draining compost. Once it is established it copes with dry spells better than most summer bedding, and it stands up to wind and salt, so it works in a coastal garden as well as a town patio. Deadhead the spent heads and it keeps flowering.
It is not hardy. Frost kills it outright, so lift the plants and keep them frost free over winter, or start again with fresh plants in spring.
