The bedding geranium everybody knows, flowering without a break from late spring until the first frost.
Variegated Chocolate is another foliage geranium, its leaves marked in purple and green with a chocolate zone, and bright red flowers held above them. Pelgardini is one of the trailing kinds, so it spills over the edge of a basket, a window box or a tall pot instead of standing upright.
Give it full sun and a free draining compost. Once it is established it copes with dry spells better than most summer bedding, and it stands up to wind and salt, so it works in a coastal garden as well as a town patio. Deadhead the spent heads and it keeps flowering.
It is not hardy. Frost kills it outright, so lift the plants and keep them frost free over winter, or start again with fresh plants in spring.
