Lobelia 'Sweet Springs White' is an upright bedding lobelia, smothered in tiny white flowers from late spring through to autumn.
This is an upright form rather than a trailer, building a neat bushy mound about 15 to 25cm high and 15 to 20cm across. The flowers are small and fan shaped, each with three flared lower petals and two smaller upper ones, carried so thickly along the stems that they half hide the fine green foliage. It is a useful thing for edging a path or filling the gaps in a bedding scheme, where the white reads clearly against stronger summer colours.
Plants arrive as established 10.5cm rootballs grown in peat free compost, so they are a good deal stronger than plugs and settle quickly. This is bedding lobelia rather than the tall border kind, so plant it out once the frosts have passed and keep the compost moist. It resents drying out far more than it resents cold. All lobelia is harmful if eaten and toxic to cats and dogs.
