Hosta 'First Frost' is a hosta, a hardy perennial grown for bold leaves that fill a shaded border from spring through to autumn.
The listing covers a range of leaf colours, from deep green and blue-green through to variegation with white, cream or golden margins. The leaves build into a dense, mounded clump with real presence, and in summer slender stems of pale lavender flowers rise above them. Foliage does the work here: it gives structure and ground cover in the difficult shaded spots where little else looks good, and it sits well beside ferns, heucheras and astilbes.
Hostas want partial or full shade and soil that stays moist without waterlogging, and they are just as happy in a large container. Yellow and gold leaved hostas want more light than blue leaved ones, which scorch in sun. They die back to nothing over winter and come up again every spring, needing very little from you in between. Slugs, snails and deer all eat hostas, so protect the new growth as it pushes through in spring. Supplied as established 1L plants, outdoor ready.
