Set of 3 or 6 Delphinium Pacific Giants Blue Bird Hardy Perennial Plants, Tall Cottage Garden Flowers, Outdoor Garden Ready, 1 Litre Root-Ball

Regular price £20.99

Add striking vertical interest to your garden with this collection of three Delphinium Pacific Giants 'Blue Bird' plants. Renowned for their towering flower spikes adorned with clear mid-blue, semi-double florets and a distinctive white centre (known as the 'bee'), Blue Bird is one of the most admired varieties within the celebrated Pacific Giants Series. These cottage garden favourites produce magnificent spires of colour from early to midsummer and, if cut back promptly after flowering, can reward you with a second flush later in the season.

Supplied as three established plants in 1Ltr root-balls, these Delphiniums are ready to plant straight into borders or large containers. They are fully hardy and will return reliably year after year, growing taller and more impressive with each season.

Key Features:

  • Set of 3 or 6 established Delphinium 'Blue Bird' plants

  • Supplied in 1Ltr root-balls, ready to plant out

  • Tall, eye-catching spikes of clear mid-blue flowers with a white bee

  • Ideal for cottage gardens, herbaceous borders and cut flower arrangements

  • Fully hardy perennial – comes back year after year

  • May produce a second flush of flowers if deadheaded after the first bloom

  • Attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinators

Planting and Care:

Plant in a sheltered position in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Delphiniums perform best in full sun but will tolerate light partial shade. Tall flower spikes should be staked to protect them from wind damage. Water regularly during dry spells and apply a balanced liquid feed during the growing season to encourage strong growth. After the first flush of flowers, cut spent stems back to just above ground level to encourage a second display. In autumn, cut back all growth and apply a mulch around the base for winter protection.

Cultural Information:

  • Botanical Name: Delphinium elatum 'Blue Bird' (Pacific Giants Series)

  • Common Names: Delphinium, Larkspur

  • Classification: Hardy Herbaceous Perennial

  • Fully Grown Height and Spread: 120–180 cm × 60–90 cm

  • Growth Habit: Upright, Clump-Forming Perennial with Tall Flower Spikes

  • Perfect For: Cottage Gardens, Herbaceous Borders, Cut Flower Gardens, Back of Borders

  • Flowering Time: June to July (possible second flush in late summer if deadheaded)

  • Flower Colour: Clear Mid-Blue with a White Bee (Centre)

  • Planting Position: Full Sun to Light Partial Shade, Sheltered

  • Soil Requirements: Fertile, Moist but Well-Drained

  • Hardiness: Fully Hardy (RHS H7)

  • Attracts: Bees, Butterflies and Other Pollinators

  • Foliage: Mid-Green, Deeply Divided Palmate Leaves

Notes: This listing is for the Blue Bird variety, prized for its clear mid-blue colouring and classic white bee. Please be aware that all parts of Delphinium are toxic if ingested and may cause skin irritation upon contact – handle with care and plant away from areas frequented by children and pets.
