A richly scented lavandin carrying violet blue flower spikes over silver green evergreen foliage.

'Tasty Grosso' builds a compact rounded mound of narrow aromatic leaves, around 60 to 75cm tall and 45 to 60cm across, then throws up dense upright spikes from mid to late summer. Bees and butterflies work it all day, and the stems cut and dry well for the house.

Give it full sun and sharp drainage. Lavender suffers far more from sitting wet than from cold or hunger, and once settled it wants very little water and very little attention. Shear lightly after flowering to hold the shape, and never cut back into bare old wood because it will not reshoot. It takes salt wind, so it is as happy in a coastal garden as in a gravel bed, a herb garden or a large pot. Supplied as well rooted 1L plants in your choice of three or six.
