Strawberry 'Delizz' is an everbearing variety, which means smaller flushes of fruit spread across a long season rather than one heavy crop.

It gives classic red fruit with a rich, full flavour on a compact plant of around 20cm to 30cm, with a spreading, slightly trailing habit that lets the berries hang clear of the soil. That habit is what makes it as good in a hanging basket or a balcony pot as it is in a raised bed, and it is why everbearers suit small gardens where one short glut of fruit would be wasted.

Grow it in full sun in fertile, moisture-retentive soil that still drains, and keep the compost evenly damp while fruit is swelling. Feed every week or two with a high-potash fertiliser through flowering and fruiting, and pick regularly to keep the plant producing. Remove runners if you want fruit rather than new plants. Bees improve the shape of the berries, so leave the flowers accessible. Each plant is supplied as an established 1 litre plant grown peat-free at our Yorkshire nursery.
