A grower-picked mix of thyme that may include 'Precompa', Lemon Variegated, 'Doone Valley' and traditional garden thyme.

Because the mix draws on more than one kind of thyme, it gives you both habits in one order: the upright, bushy common thyme that most people cook with, and the low spreading mats that carpet gravel and paving. Between them you get a range of scents, leaf colours and forms, from plain deep green through gold-edged citrus-scented foliage, with pink and lilac flowers from late spring into midsummer. Bees find every one of them.

All of them want the same conditions, which is what makes the mix easy to plant together: full sun, light free-draining soil and no standing water in winter. Once established they are drought tolerant and need only a light trim after flowering to stop them going woody. Use the leaves fresh or dried through the year. Each plant is supplied as an established 1 litre root ball, grown in peat-free compost at our Yorkshire nursery and ready to go straight into beds, pots or a herb planter.
