Carex oshimensis 'Evergold' (Japanese Sedge) – Evergreen Ornamental Grass (2L Pot)

Carex oshimensis 'Evergold' is a compact evergreen sedge that gives fine-leaved colour and gentle movement to borders and pots all year round.

It forms a neat, arching tuft 25 to 60cm tall and 30 to 60cm wide of narrow, grass-like leaves. 'Evergold' belongs to a family of compact sedges whose foliage comes in creamy white, golden yellow, lime and copper tones, shifting subtly with the seasons. Small flower spikes appear in spring and summer, but the leaves are the point. Unlike many ornamental grasses it does not die back for winter, so it keeps its shape and colour through the dullest months and earns its place near a path or door where it is seen every day.

Plant it in full sun or partial shade in soil that stays moist but drains well. It is fully hardy across Britain and needs very little attention: comb out any tired leaves in early spring and that is about it. Use it to soften the edge of a border, in a gravel garden or rockery, at a woodland edge, or spilling over the rim of a patio container, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras and spring bulbs.

Supplied as an established plant in a 2L pot, grown peat-free at our Yorkshire nursery.
