Carex oshimensis 'Evercream' (Japanese Sedge) – Variegated Evergreen Ornamental Grass (2L Pot)

Carex oshimensis 'Evercream' is a compact evergreen sedge with creamy-white edged leaves that stay bright right through winter.

It forms a neat, mound-forming clump 30 to 40cm tall and 30 to 45cm wide of narrow, arching leaves, each with creamy-white margins and a rich green central stripe. Small brown flower spikes appear in late spring and early summer but are of no consequence; the foliage is the point, and it holds its colour through the cooler months.

It thrives in partial shade and will take full shade, and tolerates sunnier positions provided the soil keeps some moisture. Give it moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil and a sheltered or semi-sheltered spot for the best leaf colour. Fully hardy and low maintenance, it needs only a comb through with your fingers in early spring to remove old leaves; divide established clumps every few years to keep them vigorous. Use it for edging paths, softening hard landscaping, ground cover, containers or woodland-style planting.
