Choisya ternata (Mexican Orange Blossom) – Scented Evergreen Shrub (2L Pot)

Rich, glossy evergreen leaves and clusters of white, citrus scented flowers from late spring.

The plain green Choisya ternata is the reliable one: dense, naturally rounded and up to about 2.5m tall and wide, with aromatic leaves held in threes that release their scent when brushed. Pure white, star shaped flowers open from late spring into early summer and often repeat in autumn in a mild year, and bees work them steadily.

Grow it in full sun or partial shade in well drained soil, in a border, an informal hedge or a large pot. It is hardy in most of Britain, though cold drying winds can scorch the leaves, so give it some shelter. Deer and rabbits tend to leave it alone. A light trim after flowering keeps the shape and can bring on a second flush of flower.
