Cosmos 'Cherry Chocolate' opens velvety cherry to wine red flowers that carry a real chocolate scent.

This is a chocolate cosmos, Cosmos atrosanguineus, a tuberous perennial rather than a bedding annual. The 7cm flowers are held on short stems above blue-green foliage in a tidy clump from midsummer into early autumn, and the scent comes through best on a warm, still day. It was placed second in the RHS Plant of the Year 2024.

Supplied as a well rooted 2L plant grown peat-free at our Yorkshire nursery, often already in bud. It is half hardy, so it is best lifted or moved under cover for the winter like a dahlia rather than left out in the cold.
