The Japanese painted fern, with metallic silver fronds shot through with burgundy along the ribs.

It is the one fern people notice. The colour is strongest in dappled light, so it earns its place under trees and shrubs or along a shaded path where the silver lifts everything green around it.

Each plant is supplied as a fresh, well established 2L root ball, grown in peat free compost. They are larger and more mature than plugs, so they arrive fully rooted and ready to go straight into the ground or a pot.

It is a deciduous fern, so it disappears over winter and comes again in spring. Plant it in partial to full shade in soil that stays moist, shelter it from wind, and it will need nothing else.
