Neat mounds of aromatic grey green foliage topped with dark blue flower spikes right through summer.
The plants stay compact, around 30 to 60cm tall and 40 to 70cm across, so they suit path edging, a low informal hedge, the front of a sunny border or a patio pot. Spikes rise well clear of the foliage from early summer to late summer and carry the scent on a warm afternoon.
Bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects work the flowers, and the stems cut and dry well. Lavender asks for full sun and free draining ground; once established it copes with drought and with salt wind, and it needs nothing more than a light trim after flowering to stop it going woody. Never cut back into bare old wood, as it will not reshoot. Supplied established in a 2L pot.
