Spiraea nipponica 'Snowmound' – White Flowering Deciduous Shrub (2L Pot)

Spiraea 'Snowmound' is the arching white spiraea, so thickly covered in flower in May and June that the leaves disappear and the whole bush looks like a drift of snow.

It makes a dense mound of arching branches about one and a half to two metres each way, with small dark green leaves that keep it looking neat for the rest of the growing season. The nectar rich flowers are worked hard by bees and butterflies, which makes it a genuinely useful shrub as well as a showy one.

This is the spring flowering kind of spiraea, so it flowers on last year's wood. Prune it lightly straight after flowering, not in spring, or you cut off the display. Planted in a row it makes a fine informal flowering hedge.

It is fully hardy and about as easy as a shrub gets, standing cold, wind and salt air, and growing on any well drained soil including chalk and clay. Full sun or partial shade both suit it. It holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit. Supplied as an established plant in a 2L pot.
