Globeflower opens rounded, bowl shaped blooms in soft lemon yellow from late spring, one of the first big perennials of the year to flower.
'Lemon Queen' is paler than most globeflowers, which makes it easier to place, and the flowers sit above mounds of deeply divided dark green leaves. It reaches 60 to 90cm tall and 45 to 60cm across, and the blooms cut well for the house.
This is a genuine damp soil plant, at home in a bog garden, a heavy moist border or the margin of a pond. It will fail quickly if it dries out in summer, so give it deep, moisture retentive soil enriched with organic matter, in sun or partial shade. Astilbe, hosta, Iris sibirica and primula are natural companions.
Deadhead for a possible second flush, and divide the clumps every three or four years to keep them flowering well. Supplied as a 17cm 2 litre root ball, ready for planting out.
