Banana plants are herbaceous perennials rather than true woody trees and are primarily grown in the UK for their spectacular ornamental foliage, as flowering and fruiting require sustained tropical warmth and a long, uninterrupted growing season. Cooler temperatures and shorter growing seasons mean fruit is rarely produced. Move container-grown plants to a bright, frost-free location before winter.
