Lupin Legendary Red Shades – Hardy Perennial, Garden Ready, 3 Litre Root-Ball

This striking Lupin from the Legendary Series produces tall, impressive flower spikes in rich red shades, creating a truly spectacular display in any garden setting. A classic English garden perennial, the Legendary Red Shades lupin is easy to grow, low maintenance, and delivers vibrant colour year after year.

The dense, upright flower spikes emerge from attractive palmate foliage, making this an ideal choice for cottage garden borders, wildlife gardens, and traditional herbaceous planting schemes. Lupins are well known for attracting bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators, helping to support garden biodiversity.

Supplied as a large, established 3 litre root-ball plant, this lupin is ready to plant straight into the garden for an instant impact. It works beautifully at the back of a border, in a mixed perennial planting, or even in a large patio container. The tall flower spikes also make excellent cut flowers for arrangements.

Key Features:

  • Vibrant red shades flower spikes from June to July

  • Hardy herbaceous perennial – returns year after year

  • Bee friendly and pollinator friendly

  • Easy to grow and low maintenance

  • Drought tolerant once established

  • Ideal for borders, cottage gardens, wildlife gardens, and containers

  • Supplied as a mature, garden-ready 3 litre root-ball plant

Cultural Information:

  • Botanical Name: Lupinus polyphyllus (Legendary Series)

  • Common Names: Lupin, Lupine

  • Classification: Herbaceous Perennial

  • Fully Grown Height and Spread: 50–80 cm × 40–50 cm

  • Growth Habit: Upright, Clump-Forming Herbaceous Perennial

  • Perfect for: Cottage Garden Borders, Wildlife Gardens, Mixed Perennial Beds, Large Containers

  • Flowering Time: June to July

  • Planting Position: Full Sun to Partial Shade

  • Soil Requirements: Well-Drained, Slightly Acidic to Neutral Soil

  • Attracts: Bees, Butterflies and Beneficial Pollinators

  • Type: Hardy Herbaceous Perennial

  • Hardiness: Fully Hardy (RHS H7)

  • Foliage: Mid-Green, Palmate Leaves

Planting Advice:

Plant in a sunny or partially shaded position in well-drained soil. Lupins prefer slightly acidic to neutral conditions and do not thrive in heavy, waterlogged soils. Once established, they are reasonably drought tolerant. Deadhead spent flower spikes to encourage a second flush of blooms and to keep the plant looking tidy. Protect young growth from slugs and snails in spring.

Notes: Available in Red Shades. Flower colour may vary slightly as this is a naturally grown plant. One plant is supplied per order as a 3 litre root-ball.
