Dahlia 'Maggiore Purple' is a compact bedding dahlia that carries large, rich purple blooms from midsummer until the first frost.

The flowers are fully petalled and long lasting, held on an upright, clump forming plant of around 60cm tall and 40cm across. The plant branches well, so once it starts it keeps sending up fresh buds for months rather than weeks, and the stems are long enough to cut for the house.

Give it a sunny spot in a bed, a raised border or a large patio container, in fertile soil that stays moist but drains freely. Deadhead as the flowers fade and feed fortnightly with a high potash feed once the buds form. It arrives as an established plant in a 3L pot, in bud or already in bloom, ready to plant out once the frosts have passed. Open centred dahlias are worked by bees and butterflies through late summer. All parts may cause severe discomfort if eaten and the sap can irritate skin.
