A neat evergreen shrub with fine, colour changing foliage that keeps a garden furnished all year.

Despite the common name, heavenly bamboo is not a bamboo and does not run or spread. It forms tidy upright mounds of delicate leaves, around 60 to 90cm tall and 60cm across, that shift in tone as the seasons turn and hold their colour through the colder months. That makes it a dependable choice for borders, small gardens, courtyards and decorative containers.

It is hardy in most of Britain, though cold drying wind can brown the leaf edges and the winter colour is far better in a sunny spot. Compact forms such as 'Obsessed' rarely produce berries. Growth is slow and well behaved, so pruning is occasional at most, a light trim in spring to keep the shape. Supplied as a well rooted 3L plant with an established root system. Nandina berries contain cyanogenic compounds and are poisonous to cats, dogs, birds and grazing animals.
