Philadelphus 'Snowbelle' is a compact mock orange, smothered in double pure white flowers in June and July with the classic orange blossom scent.

It makes a neat rounded bush of only about one and a quarter to one and a half metres each way, so it fits a small garden or a large container where the older mock oranges would take over. The flowers are fully double and come in clusters along the stems, and the scent fills a courtyard or a doorway.

It is fully hardy and easy, growing in full sun or partial shade on most soils that drain, and it stands coastal wind. Bees and butterflies work the flowers. Plant it in a hole twice the width of the rootball, firm it in, and water through the first summer while it settles.

Prune straight after flowering, taking the flowered stems back to strong new growth, because next year's flowers come on this year's new wood. Being deciduous it drops its leaves in autumn and may arrive bare of foliage in winter, which is normal. Supplied as an established plant in a 3L pot.
