Prunus incisa 'Kojo-no-mai' (Dwarf Fuji Cherry) – Flowering Cherry (3L Pot)

Prunus incisa 'Kojo-no-mai' is a dwarf flowering cherry with zigzag stems, pale pink and white blossom in early spring and orange-red autumn leaves.

The flowers open in clusters along the bare, angular branches in March and April before the leaves. The small oval leaves are mid green through summer and turn orange and red in autumn, and the distinctive zigzag branching keeps it interesting through winter. It is compact and slow growing, to around 1.5 to 2.5 metres tall and wide, so it suits a small garden, a border, a patio container or a low informal hedge. It holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Fully hardy anywhere in Britain, in full sun or partial shade and most moist, well drained soils. Bees and other pollinators visit the blossom. A late frost or a wet windy spell can spoil the flowers just as they open, so a little shelter helps. Pruning is minimal: remove dead or damaged wood after flowering. Water regularly in the first season while the roots establish.
