Delivery detailsPolyanthus 'Piano Rose' brings warm rose-pink colour to the garden from late winter, on sturdy stems above lush, deep green foliage. It is a compact, free-flowering spring bedding plant, and a hardy one that copes with cold, wet spring weather.
The Piano series is bred for strong garden performance and a long, prolific flowering season. The velvety rose-toned blooms have the classic polyanthus form and are a useful early source of nectar for bees and other pollinators. Polyanthus (Primula x polyantha) is usually grown as a biennial bedding plant, planted in autumn for winter and spring flowers, though it is perennial and will often return.
You receive 12 plants, growing in 2 plastic 6-cell trays with one plant to each cell. They arrive well established and ready to plant out into containers, window boxes, patio planters or the front of a border. Choose a sheltered spot with good light and some protection from harsh midday sun, in moist, fertile soil or good quality peat-free compost. Water regularly, keeping the soil moist but never waterlogged.
Care is easy. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong the display and feed with a balanced liquid feed every two weeks while the plants are growing. After flowering the clumps can be kept and divided for use in later seasons. Like all primulas, polyanthus can cause stomach upset if eaten and skin irritation in some people.
