Delivery details

Polyanthus 'Piano Scarlet' gives bold, vivid scarlet flowers with a golden-yellow eye, in a compact, tidy plant that is hardy enough to stay outdoors all year. You get 12 plants, growing in two 6-cell trays with one plant to each cell.

The Piano series is one of the most popular polyanthus ranges, bred for strong colour, even growth and good weather tolerance. The plants form neat rosettes of rich green, crinkled leaves, and flower from late winter through spring. They are easy to grow and suit beginners and experienced gardeners alike.

Plant them in garden borders, patio pots and window boxes, in sun or partial shade. They like well-drained soil that holds some moisture and has plenty of organic matter added. Water regularly, but avoid waterlogging around the roots. They are a good fit for cottage garden planting schemes and patio container displays. Bees and other pollinators visit the flowers.

Deadhead spent blooms regularly to keep the flowers coming. Polyanthus is often grown as a biennial, planted in autumn for winter and spring colour, though it is a perennial and will often return. Like all primulas, it can cause stomach upset and skin irritation if eaten or handled.
