Delivery details

The Asparagus Fern (Asparagus setaceus), also known as the Lace Fern, is a graceful houseplant prized for its soft, feathery sprays of bright green foliage.

Despite the name, it is not a true fern but a member of the asparagus family, closely related to Asparagus densiflorus, the emerald fern. Its fine, needle-like cladodes form delicate arching sprays that bring a light, airy texture to a room, and the foliage stays evergreen all year round.

It arrives as an established young plant, ready for a bright shelf, windowsill or desk where its fine foliage can be appreciated up close. Position it in bright, indirect light or medium light, out of direct sun, which can scorch the delicate leaves. Water regularly through the growing season, keeping the compost moist but never waterlogged, and mist the foliage occasionally to keep up the humidity it enjoys.

It is an easy, low maintenance houseplant that asks only for a reasonably warm spot away from cold draughts, as it will not tolerate temperatures below about 5°C.

Asparagus Fern is toxic to cats and dogs, and handling the stems can irritate skin, so site it out of reach of pets and take care when pruning or repotting.
