Dieffenbachia (Dumb Cane) – Air-Purifying Houseplant (12cm Pot)

Dieffenbachia, commonly known as Dumb Cane, is a bold tropical houseplant grown for its striking creamy-yellow and green variegated foliage. Its compact, bushy growth makes it an easy fit for desks, shelves, windowsills and living rooms.

The large oval leaves carry a marbled pattern that is unique to each plant, giving it plenty of presence indoors without needing much space. Botanically it is Dieffenbachia seguine, and it is one of the more adaptable houseplants available, equally suited to beginners and experienced growers.

It arrives well established in its nursery pot, and a choice of decorative planter is available if you would rather not keep it in that pot. Give it bright, indirect light or partial shade, keeping it away from direct sun which can scorch the leaves, and water moderately, letting the top of the compost dry out a little between waterings, less so in winter.

Dieffenbachia is toxic to cats and dogs. Every part of the plant can cause painful mouth and throat swelling if chewed, and the sap can irritate skin and eyes, so it is worth wearing gloves when handling it or taking cuttings.
