Collection: Viburnum

Viburnum tinus, or laurustinus, is an evergreen shrub that flowers through the winter and is good for bees at a time when they have little else.

It's fully hardy, happy in sun or partial shade, and makes a dense hedge or screen. It grows wild on sea cliffs, so it copes well in coastal gardens, though it still prefers a spot out of cold, drying winds.

'Lisarose' is a compact form, and 'Gwenllian' and 'Eve Price' are classic flowering varieties. These are sizeable shrubs that only suit a pot while young. The berries are harmful if eaten.

Plant from March to May or September to November. Grown peat-free in Yorkshire.
