Collection: Carex

Carex, the ornamental sedges, are evergreen grass-like plants that add colour and movement to pots and borders all year, from cream and white striped Japanese sedges to the copper-orange 'Prairie Fire'.

The Japanese sedges, such as 'Evergold', 'Everest' and 'Everillo', are hardy, low maintenance and very happy in a pot. Bronze and orange New Zealand types like 'Prairie Fire' are a little less tough and can be lost in a cold, wet winter on heavy ground, so give them free-draining soil.

Use them in sun or partial shade, along a path, at the front of a border, or as the evergreen backbone of a winter container. 'Feather Falls' is the larger one, in a 5 litre pot.

Plant from March to May or in September and October. Grown peat-free in Yorkshire.
