Collection: Photinia

Photinia is grown for its bright red new shoots against evergreen leaves. 'Red Robin' is the classic choice for a fast evergreen hedge or screen, and 'Magical Volcano' is a compact form for smaller spaces and pots.

It's fully hardy across Britain and happy in sun or partial shade, but late frosts and cold winds can scorch the red growth, so a sheltered spot keeps it looking its best. Salt-laden wind burns the young shoots too, so it isn't a front-line seaside shrub.

Plant from March to May or September to November. Grown peat-free in Yorkshire.
