Collection: Hellebore

Hellebores are one of the few plants that flower outdoors in the depths of a British winter, from December into April, when little else in the garden is doing anything.

They're fully hardy and happy in partial or full shade, under trees or at the front of a shady border, and they're deer resistant and good for early bees. Varieties such as 'Winter Sunshine' and 'Winter Moonbeam' take more sun than the classic Lenten roses and do well in pots, so they're a good choice for a winter container by the door.

Plant in February and March or from September to November. All hellebores are harmful if eaten and the sap can irritate skin, so wear gloves when tidying old leaves.

Grown peat-free in Yorkshire.
