Collection: Pansy

Winter pansies are one of the few bedding plants that are properly hardy. Plant them in autumn and they flower through mild spells all winter, sit out frost and snow, then carry on into spring when the weather lifts.

Most of the pansies here are the Delta series, grown for winter and spring flowering, in clear colours and in faces with a dark blotch. They are at home in pots, window boxes and the front of a border, in sun or partial shade.

The planting window is September to November. Keep them watered in dry spells and pick off faded flowers every week or so. Deadheading is what keeps a pansy flowering.

For a winter pot, pair them with cyclamen in a sheltered spot. For a display that carries on into spring, plant them with primroses and polyanthus.

Grown peat-free in Yorkshire, in sets of 3 or 6.
