Three evergreen Mediterranean herbs chosen to keep a kitchen supplied through the cold months: rosemary, thyme and sage.
Our growers put this set together because these three hold their leaves when everything else has died back, and because their flavours suit the food people actually cook in autumn and winter. Rosemary for roasts and potatoes, thyme for stews and stock, sage for stuffing and butter sauces. All three are woody perennials rather than annuals, so the set comes back year after year rather than needing replacing each spring.
Plant them together in a sunny bed or keep them in pots by the kitchen door. All three want the same thing: full sun and sharp drainage. Winter wet is what kills Mediterranean herbs, not cold, so never let them stand in soggy ground. Left to flower in spring and summer they are all strong bee plants. The plants are supplied large and ready to snip from, so you can start using them the week they arrive. Rosemary is recorded as a skin allergen, so wear gloves when you prune it.
