A low, dense evergreen with heavily mottled cream and green leaves that brightens a shady corner all year.

Euonymus fortunei 'Harlequin' is one of the brightest of the wintercreepers, its small leaves speckled and splashed with cream over green, and new growth coming almost white. It forms a compact bushy mound, holds its colour through the winter and is as happy in a container by a door as it is running along the front of a border or under taller shrubs.

It will grow almost anywhere: full sun, partial shade or deep shade, most soils, cold gardens and seaside gardens, and it takes a clip whenever it needs one. Left alone it mounds up and spreads, and set against a wall it will climb slowly of its own accord. Variegated forms colour best with some sun and throw the occasional plain green shoot, which wants cutting out. All euonymus are poisonous to cats and dogs. Supplied as three or six well grown 1L plants, enough for a run of edging or a group in a border.
