Strawberry 'Summer Breeze Snow' is grown for two things at once: layered, rose-like white flowers and a long run of firm, juicy fruit.

Unlike an ordinary garden strawberry it flowers as ornamentally as a bedding plant, then keeps fruiting in flushes from June through to the first frost rather than giving one heavy crop and stopping. That is what everbearing means, and it is the reason this one suits a pot by the door or a basket you walk past every day. The plants stay compact and neat, and they throw almost no runners, so they do not sprawl the way a traditional variety does.

Grow it in full sun in good compost, water evenly while the fruit is swelling and feed with a high-potash liquid feed through the season. Bees visiting the flowers improve the shape of the fruit. The plant arrives in a 2 litre pot, grown peat-free at our Yorkshire nursery and already well established, so it can go straight out once you have somewhere sunny for it. Plants tire after three or four years and are best replaced then.
