A compact upright lobelia smothered in small lavender flowers from late spring until the autumn frosts.

The Springs types make a neat bushy dome around 15 to 25cm tall and 20 to 30cm across, with fine bright green leaves that all but disappear under the flowers at their peak. The soft colour lifts stronger summer bedding and looks its best spilling over the edge of a container, a window box or a basket, or edging the front of a bed.

This is a half hardy bedding lobelia, so plant it out only once the frosts have passed and expect it to finish with the first cold nights. It minds drying out far more than it minds the cold: keep the compost damp, water daily in warm weather and feed every week or two through the season. Deadheading is not needed, though a trim in midsummer refreshes the growth. All lobelia is harmful if eaten and toxic to cats and dogs. Supplied as well rooted 10.5cm plants in your choice of three or six.
