Lobelia 'Sweet Springs Dark Blue' is a trailing bedding lobelia, smothered in tiny deep blue flowers from late spring through to autumn.
The flowers are small and fan shaped, each with three flared lower petals and two smaller upper ones, carried so thickly along the flexible stems that they half hide the fine green foliage. Plants reach about 10 to 15cm high and trail 30 to 40cm, enough to soften the rim of a basket or a window box without swamping whatever is planted beside them.
Plants arrive as established 10.5cm rootballs grown in peat free compost, so they are a good deal stronger than plugs and settle quickly. This is bedding lobelia rather than the tall border kind, so plant it out once the frosts have passed and keep the compost moist. It resents drying out far more than it resents cold. All lobelia is harmful if eaten and toxic to cats and dogs.
