Polyanthus Yellow – Hardy Winter and Spring Bedding (Set of 3 or 6)

Polyanthus Yellow carries its flowers in tight clusters on short upright stems, from late winter through spring when there is little else out.

It makes a neat, low rosette of glossy deep green leaves, roughly 15 to 25cm tall and 15 to 25cm across, with the flower heads held just above the foliage. Grow it in beds and borders, in patio pots, window boxes and winter baskets, in full sun or light shade, in soil that stays moist and does not dry out. It is fully hardy across Britain. Polyanthus is usually planted in autumn and treated as one season of colour, but it is a perennial and will often come back the following year.

Supplied as a 10.5cm pot grown plant, well rooted and often in bud or in flower on arrival, so it can go straight out. The early flowers are a genuinely useful source of nectar for bees and butterflies at a time of year when there is little else for them. Like all primulas it can cause stomach upset and skin irritation.
