Sanvitalia procumbens 'Santiago Bright Yellow', the creeping zinnia, covers itself in small clear yellow daisies from late spring until early autumn.

The flowers sit just above neat, mounding foliage that spreads gently as the season goes on, so it fills the front of a container, a window box or a hanging basket without ever getting unruly. It holds its colour well in heat, and the flowers are worked steadily by bees and butterflies.

It wants full sun and free draining soil, and once it is established it copes well with dry spells, which makes it a sensible choice for a pot that cannot be watered every day. It is not hardy, so it goes out after the frosts and is grown as a summer plant. Supplied as well-established 10.5cm root-balls, ready to plant out.
