Arenaria 'Ronda' is a neat, cushion-forming sandwort that covers its bright green evergreen mound with small white starry flowers in late spring and early summer.
It is a tidy little plant, 5 to 15 cm tall and spreading gently, with fine, bright green foliage that stays through winter. The white star-shaped flowers open from late spring into early summer and sit close to the cushion, giving a soft, carpet-like effect between stones, along a path or spilling over an edge.
Give it full sun or partial shade and gritty, free-draining soil; sandy, gravel and alpine conditions suit it best, and it needs no feeding. Water it while it establishes, after which it needs little. It resents a cold wet winter on heavy soil, so add grit where drainage is poor. Use it in a rockery, gravel garden, trough or patio container, or as ground cover at the front of a border. Trim lightly after flowering to keep the cushion neat. Fully hardy.
Supplied as a set of three or six well-established plants in 1 litre pots, grown in peat-free compost, ready to plant out.
