A low, silver leaved sub-shrub that carries crisp white daisies with yellow centres from late spring into autumn.

Rhodanthemum hosmariense makes a neat mound around 30 to 40cm high and 30 to 50cm across, with finely divided silvery green foliage that stays put all year. The flowers come heavily in spring, then again in late summer, and it is one of the longest flowering things you can grow on poor, dry ground. Supplied as established plants in 1 litre pots.

It wants full sun and sharp drainage. Cold alone does not kill it, since it takes around minus 10C, but winter wet does, so it belongs in a gravel garden, a raised bed or a gritty pot rather than a heavy border, and pots should be raised off the ground and never left standing in a saucer over winter. It is naturally short lived and goes woody and open with age, so shear it over after the main flush and take cuttings to keep a stock going. It is also sold under its older names Chrysanthemum hosmariense and Leucanthemum hosmariense.
