Dryopteris atrata (Shaggy Wood Fern) – Hardy Fern (Set of 3 or 6)

The shaggy wood fern is grown for that contrast: dark, almost black scales against rich green foliage. It gradually forms a handsome shuttlecock clump that gives structure and texture to a woodland border or a damp, sheltered spot where other plants struggle.

It is a hardy perennial that returns year after year and keeps much of its foliage through the winter. Space the plants around 60cm to 75cm apart, water them through the first season and mulch in spring to hold the moisture in.
