Achillea millefolium 'Cerise Queen' is a hardy yarrow carrying flat heads of cerise pink flowers all summer.
Broad, plate like flower heads sit on strong upright stems above a mound of finely divided, feathery green foliage. The colour holds from June to September, and cutting the first flush back brings a second.
Give it full sun and free draining soil. It copes with poor dry ground once settled and stands up to wind and salt in an exposed garden, but it dislikes heavy wet clay through winter. Bees and butterflies work the flower heads constantly, and the stems cut and dry well for the house. Yarrow spreads at the root, so keep an eye on it where it sits beside smaller neighbours.
Supplied as three or six plants, each as an established 11cm root ball, ready to plant straight out.
Foliage: Finely divided, feathery, aromatic green leaves
Flowering Time: June to September
Planting Position: Full sun, including dry soils and exposed coastal gardens
Soil Type: Free draining, poor to moderately fertile
Hardiness: Fully hardy
Maintenance: Low. Cut back after the first flush for a second, then to the ground in autumn or early spring
Seasonal Interest: Summer and autumn
Type: Hardy herbaceous perennial
