Bergenia 'Rotblum' is an evergreen ground cover with deep rose red flowers in spring.
Thick, leathery, rounded leaves cover the ground all year and turn rich burgundy red through autumn and winter, when little else is doing much. Short spikes of deep rose red flowers follow from March to May. Clumps reach around 30 to 40cm tall and 30 to 45cm across and knit together into weed suppressing cover.
It is one of the toughest plants we sell: full sun, partial shade or deep shade, most soils that drain, and dry ground once it is settled. It also does well in a container. Cold wind scorches the leaves and a hard frost spoils the earliest flowers, so keep it out of the teeth of the weather. Bees work the early flowers, and deer and rabbits usually leave it alone.
Supplied as three or six garden ready plants, each in a 1 litre pot with an established root ball.
