Ready-grown light blue hyacinths, three 1 litre pots holding nine bulbs between them, prepared to flower within a couple of weeks.

These are not dry bulbs. They come growing and ready to open, so there is no months-long wait: the dense spikes of star-shaped flowers push up and release the unmistakable sweet hyacinth scent within a fortnight or so. Stand the pots on a kitchen windowsill in bright light, or outside on a doorstep, patio or garden table in a sheltered spot. They make a simple seasonal centrepiece and a good living gift.

Indoors, keep them cool; warmth shortens the display, so put them back outside between showings if you want them to last. Outside they are fully hardy and can stand out all winter. When the flowers are over, let the foliage die back naturally, then dry the bulbs and replant them in autumn, or plant them straight into the garden for another display next spring. Bulbs are harmful if eaten and a skin irritant, so wear gloves when handling them.

Supplied as three 1 litre pots with three bulbs in each, nine in total.
