Rosemary 'Blue Rain' – Trailing Evergreen Herb (Set of 3 or 6)

'Blue Rain' is a trailing rosemary, grown for aromatic needle-like leaves and a heavy show of violet-blue flowers.

Its graceful, semi-prostrate habit is what sets it apart: it spills over the edge of a raised bed, a wall or a large container rather than standing upright, so it softens hard edges while still giving you sprigs for roasting, marinades, breads and infusions all year round. It flowers from late spring into early summer, often with a second flush in autumn, and the flowers are worked hard by bees.

Give it a sunny, sheltered spot with genuinely free-draining soil. Heavy, waterlogged ground is what kills rosemary, not cold, so add grit or sand if you need to, or grow it in a gritty compost in a pot. Trailing forms like this one are a little less hardy than the upright kinds and often do best in a pot or raised bed. Once established it is drought tolerant and asks for almost nothing. Trim lightly after flowering to keep it tidy. Rosemary can irritate the skin, so wear gloves when you prune it.
