Arabis 'Deep Rose' is a hardy evergreen rock cress that carpets itself in sweetly scented deep rose-pink flowers in early spring.
It forms a dense mat of grey-green foliage that stays put all year and cascades over walls, rockeries and raised beds. The flowers open in early spring, when little else is out, and bees and butterflies come to them. The foliage suppresses weeds and keeps its colour through winter.
Plant it in full sun for the best flowering, though it will take light shade for part of the day. It wants well-drained soil and is happiest on dry, sunny banks, south-facing rockeries and raised beds; avoid heavy, waterlogged ground. Once established it is highly drought tolerant. It suits path and border edging, wall planting and patio containers as much as the open garden. One of the easiest low-maintenance perennials to grow: simply trim lightly after flowering to keep it compact. No feeding needed. Fully hardy across Britain.
