Begonia 'Vermillion Red' is an upright tuberous begonia with large, double, vivid red flowers that keep coming from June to October.
This is a compact, bushy plant growing to around 25 to 40cm tall and 20 to 30cm across, with big, showy double blooms held over glossy, deep green leaves. Its upright habit makes it a plant for beds, borders, window boxes and patio pots rather than a hanging basket, and it gives a continuous show of colour right through the summer and into autumn.
Give it a sheltered spot in full sun or partial shade and a moist, humus-rich soil that drains well. Water regularly in dry spells, keeping the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. A fortnightly liquid feed and regular removal of spent flowers keep the display going. It is low maintenance and not frost hardy, so plant out once the last frost has passed. In autumn the tuber can be lifted after the first frost, dried and stored somewhere cool and frost free for replanting the following year.
Supplied as a well-established, garden-ready plant in a 2 litre root ball. Harmful if eaten.
