Hellebore 'Tutu' is a garden hellebore, an evergreen perennial that flowers outdoors in the depths of a British winter when little else in the border is in bloom.
It builds a clump of leathery, deeply divided evergreen leaves that hold their shape through the coldest months, and from late winter into early spring nodding, cup-shaped flowers open on short stems above them and last for weeks. The flower colour of this variety is shown in the photographs.
Hellebores are happiest in partial or full shade in moist soil that drains freely, which makes them a shaded border plant first and foremost, though they also suit a woodland corner, path edging or a large pot on a shaded patio. Those early flowers are one of the few sources of nectar available to bees in late winter, and hellebores are usually left alone by deer and rabbits. This plant is supplied as an established 2L rootball grown in peat-free compost, so it can go straight out into the garden.
