Hypericum 'Hidcote' (St John's Wort) – Long Flowering Shrub (2L Pot)

Hypericum 'Hidcote' is the golden St John's wort, covered in large saucer shaped yellow flowers from July right through to October.

It makes a dense, bushy dome of about a metre each way, with neat mid green leaves that it holds through a mild winter and drops in a cold one. The flowers are big for the size of the plant, and each one carries a boss of fine stamens in the centre. Bees and butterflies work them all summer, and small berries follow the last flush.

It is one of the easiest shrubs we sell. Plant it in full sun or partial shade in any soil that drains, and it will cope with dry ground once established, and with an exposed, windy position. It works as a border filler, a low informal hedge along a path, or a pot on a patio.

A light trim in early spring keeps it tight and encourages the new growth that carries the flowers; if it ever gets straggly it can be cut back hard and will come again. It holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit. Supplied as an established plant in a 2L pot.
